KIRSI - WONDER WOMEN - The WAU Project
"After hearing about the ideas behind Wonder Women - the WAU Project, I was very flattered when Riina asked me to model for her. During the past year I have thought a lot about the position of an ageing woman through my profession - there are less and less roles and not much work anymore, even though I myself think that I am at my best age now.
The background fabric in our piece appeared very strongly to me as the space of love, in which we are all shining stars just as we are. It felt so natural to be painted, camouflaged into the pattern of the background fabric. The details of my own body lost their meaning and being naked didn't bother me at all during the session. I felt truly empowered having been painted for this.
Our day lasted for 12 hours, but I didn't want to stop when we were taking the final shot - how the little moves of my body changed the whole feeling of the photo, it felt so important to capture the "perfect one". The final artwork came out extremely beautiful and I think it reflects the message very well - Woman, you are a star, just as you are! I believe we should always be allowed to feel life experience and age as a source of power in our lives."
